File System

Venom supports file systems in four different media:
  • USB External Drive (up to 2TB)
  • SD/SDHC memory card (up to 32GB)
  • Flash File System (7MB, internal)
  • RAM DISK (up to ~1.9MB depending on RAM size, internal)

The RAM Disk and Flash file system are held in on-board non-volatile RAM and Flash respectively; the memory cards require a simple external interface using one of the SPI ports and the USB External Drive requires the connection of a MAX3421E device to an SPI port.

Both binary and text files are supported as Venom objects with many useful options.

The file systems are Windows compatible so files may be transferred easily. The VM2 can emulate a USB Flash Drive allowing access to its internal flash file system from a PC.

A micro SD/SDHC holder and USB pendrive socket are provided on the Application Board 3. If you need to include compatible circuitry on your own application board, see here for circuit schematics of our SD and USB drive interfaces.
